To all Illinois Senators –
Recently, the Illinois Senate approved SB3249 requiring public schools to teach LGBT history. Requiring schools to teach about the history of gays, lesbians and other LGBT individuals is unconstitutional.
Note the Illinois Constitution Preamble:
“We, the people of the State of Illinois, grateful to Almighty God for the civil, political and religious liberty which He hath so long permitted us to enjoy and looking to Him for a blessing on our endeavors …”
SB3249 is also an attack on religious freedom, persecuting Christian children who don’t affirm homosexuality, and trans-sexuality. Since Illinois’ constitution recognizes God as the source of “civil, political and religious liberty,” shouldn’t God’s curriculum be taught?
In Genesis 18-19 of the Old Testament, God destroyed the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah because of homosexuality. The Word of God says in Leviticus 18:22 “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination” and Leviticus 20:13 states, “If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death.”
In Romans 1:26-27 of the New Testament, God remains consistent regarding homosexuality, “For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature.Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful…”
The Declaration of Independence acknowledges God’s moral law in the phrase “the laws of nature and of nature’s God.” In a court case in 1841 Founding Father John Quincy Adams explained, “In the Declaration of Independence the Laws of Nature are announced and appealed to as identical with the laws of nature’s God, and as the foundation of all obligatory human laws.”
According to “nature’s God,” homosexuality is not natural. The term sodomy is derived from the story of Sodom and Gomorrah and was once considered a “crime against nature.” From the 1600’s to 1962 every state in America had sodomy laws. Sodomy was considered a felony and in many cases was punishable by death or a lengthy prison term. In his legal works Founding Father James Wilson stated; “The crime not to be named [sodomy], I pass in a total silence.” In Virginia, Thomas Jefferson authored a sodomy bill punishable by “castration.”
Ironically, in 1961, Illinois became the first state in the U.S. to do away with Sodomy Laws. According to Illinois Senator Heather Steans who presented the bill, requiring students to learn LGBT (homosexual) history is staying “consistent with state law.” I adamantly disagree – Illinois’s constitution and our Founding Fathers recognized God as the source of all moral law. If you are intent on legislating and teaching immorality, be solemnly warned, God will not be mocked!
In the year of our Lord 2019 –
Sincerely, Tom Hughes
