VOTE DR. DERRICK DONNELL FOR MAYOR OF CAPE CORAL

I recently passed out this letter to the churches in Cape Coral, FL endorsing Dr. Derrick Donnell for Mayor.

To the churches of Cape Coral –

At the close of the Constitutional Convention a lady asked Benjamin Franklin, “Well doctor what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?” Franklin replied, “A republic, if you can keep it.” Today we are having a difficult time keeping our republic because Christians fail to elect candidates that share their same conservative and Biblical values. When birthing America our Founding Fathers knew, “there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God,”(Romans 13:1) – not by man. Our founders then invoked Exodus 18:21 to establish America’s elective representative constitutional republic, “You shall select from all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them to be rulers of thousands [federal], rulers of hundreds [state], rulers of fifties [county], and rulers of tens [local leaders].” This verse explains we are to elect those that recognize God’s higher law and then place them in office at local, county, state, and federal levels.

This should come as no surprise since our founders believed only “righteousness exalts a nation” Proverbs 14:34. America’s citizens were taught it was their God given duty to elect righteous rulers. Founding Father Noah Webster, “The Schoolmaster to America” explains, “When you become entitled to exercise the right of voting for public officers, let it be impressed on your mind that God commands you to choose for rulers, ‘just men who will rule in the fear of God’ (Exodus 18:21). The preservation of a republican government depends on the faithful discharge of this duty; if the citizens neglect their duty and place unprincipled men in office, the government will soon be corrupted…” As Christians we have gotten away from this election process. We need to begin promoting and electing those from within the body of believers that will represent the righteousness of God.

Alliance for Religious Freedom is endorsing Dr. Derrick Donnell for Mayor of Cape Coral because he is a true statesman and not a politician. A politician will compromise Biblical principles to gain favor with his constituents and party, a statesman will not compromise Biblical principles. Founding Father President John Adams was a statesman. He declared, “The duration of future punishments terrifies me” knowing he would have to stand before God for his policy making.
