Minimum Wage – not “for the people”

Mr. John Morgan (founder of law firm, Morgan & Morgan) –

In July, you launched a political committee (Florida for a Fair Wage) which would increase Florida’s minimum wage to $15 per hour. So far your petition drive has gathered 766,200 registered voter signatures which would allow this proposed constitutional amendment on the November 2020 ballot.

Please re-consider your position regarding this issue based on the following important historical facts. America’s culture, our laws and government were established based on a Judeo-Christian worldview with the Bible as its source. Joseph Story, “Father of American Jurisprudence” and U.S. Supreme Court Justice, had this to say: “One of the beautiful boasts of our municipal jurisprudence is that Christianity is a part of the Common Law. There never has been a period in which the Common Law did not recognize Christianity as lying at its foundations.” In Matthew 20:1-16 Jesus teaches us, using a parable, the difference between free market versus socialism (minimum wage is a tenet of socialism). In the parable, all the workers have agreed with their employer to work for a set wage. However, the workers were hired at different times throughout the day and all were paid the same wage. When it was time to get paid, the workers who got hired early in the day complained because they got the same wage as those hired at the end of the day. In 20:13, the employer said, “I am not being unfair to you, friend. Didn’t you agree to work for a denarius? Don’t I have the right to do what I want with my own money?” With socialism, the government tells a business owner what wage he or she should pay someone.

The Preamble of Florida’s Constitution states: “We, the people of the State of Florida, being grateful to Almighty God for our constitutional liberty…” Liberty is part of America’s free market system and is an inalienable right given to us by God – socialism is an enemy of liberty and God!

Your law firm, Morgan & Morgan’s motto, “For The People” is not represented in your Florida for a Fair Wage amendment – but is “Against The People.”

As a Congressional candidate for “We The People” of Florida, I will do everything in my power to keep this immoral, unconstitutional, un-American policy off the ballot.

In the year of our Lord 2019 –
Blessings, Tom Hughes
