Dear Mr. President,
Recently, you signed an Executive Order (EO) stating, “students, in particular, continue to face anti-Semitic harassment in schools and on university and college campuses.” Your EO invokes “Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964” criminalizing anti-Semitic rhetoric (free speech).
Respectfully sir, your EO is unconstitutional. The Declaration of Independence is the foundation on which the structure of the Constitution was framed. In it, our Founding Fathers were very clear, “…that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” Under the umbrella of “liberty” exists freedom of speech. This “unalienable right” is recognized in the First Amendment. Our right of conscience is expressed through freedom of speech and is a Christian concept. John Quincy Adams explained, “Jesus Christ. . . . came to teach and not to compel. His law was a Law of Liberty. He left the human mind and human action free.” The right of conscience is protected from government overreach in the First Amendment. Signer of the Constitution, William Livingston declared, “Consciences of men are not the objects of human legislation.”
Mr. President, are you aware in the past twenty years roughly 253 or 97% of public universities have “speech code” policies restricting free speech, including religious speech? These “hate speech” codes in many cases have penalized students for expressing their faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. These “hate speech” codes have denied students the ability to communicate biblical morals and conservative political views, allowing them to be indoctrinated by liberal morality and political views. In his Farewell Address, Washington stated, “religion and morality” (Christianity and the moral precepts of Jesus) are “indispensable supports” for America’s “political prosperity.”
If we continue to outlaw the Christian religion and the moral precepts of Jesus (our nation’s foundations) where will our moral standards come from? God’s word speaks of this in Genesis 3 – you either trust in God or you become a god yourself. If this is the case – may God have mercy on us all.
