Now We Are Lawless

Recently I wrote a letter to the Naples Daily News about the posted Ten Commandments in our public schools and how it is unconstitutional for children to view them. It is appalling to see we have allowed the exchange of the posting of the Ten Commandments to posters such as this one that is part of a curriculum in our public schools.

President William McKinley stated in his Inaugural Address, March 4, 1897:

“Our faith teaches that there is no safer reliance than upon the God of our fathers…who will not forsake us so long as we obey HIS COMMANDMENTS.”

President Harry S Truman stated;

“The fundamental basis of this nation’s laws was given to Moses on the Mount…I don’t think we emphasize that enough these days….
If we don’t have a proper fundamental moral background, we will finally end up with a totalitarian government which does not believe in rights for anybody except for the State.”

Now we are lawless

Over 3,000 years ago, the sovereign God of the universe inscribed with His finger His holy law on two stone tablets.

That law is commonly known today as the Ten Commandments or Decalogue.

For over two centuries, the Decalogue has been recognized as the basis for our civil and moral laws in America. John Quincy Adams stated: “The law given from Sinai was a civil and municipal as well as a moral and religious code.”

Our nation has proudly displayed the Ten Commandments in our nation’s capitol, the U.S. Supreme Court and in hundreds of courthouses and civic buildings throughout America. It was also common to find the Ten Commandments displayed in our public schools.

But, in 1980, the Supreme Court ruled in the case of Stone v. Graham, it was unconstitutional for students to see religious teachings such as don’t murder, don’t steal and honor thy mother and father,” because, “If the posted copies of the Ten Commandments are to have any effect at all, it will be to induce the schoolchildren to read, meditate upon, perhaps to venerate and obey the commandments … This is not permissible.”

America has become a lawless nation because men have forgotten the source of all law. Therefore, let us be reminded and warned by the prophet Isaiah:

“For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our King; it is He who will save us.”
