Letter: Godly Principles Inscribed in Stone 6/2/15

Recently I wrote a letter to the Naples Daily News after the trip my wife and I took to our nation’s capitol. The inscriptions at the memorials reminded me of when God delivered the Israelites from slavery into the promised land. Once they had crossed the Jordan River they built a stone memorial as a reminder for “what He (God) had done” (Joshua 4:23). Our Founding Fathers made sure to give all the glory to God and set it in stone.

Sadly, God’s people today have clearly forgotten what He has done for us as a nation and refuse to repent. The responsibility for the condition of our nation today is not the radical left or the ultra conservative right but those people who claim they know the truth but are not faithfully declaring that truth to others.

Letter: Godly principles

Godly principles

My wife and I have just returned from visiting Washington, D.C. It was a very encouraging trip to see our founding fathers had a firm reliance upon Almighty God and His Son Jesus Christ when birthing America.

Upon entering the Capitol Visitation Center, the first thing we saw was “In God We Trust” (our national motto) engraved in the stone soffit. The Rotunda had many carved reliefs including the Pilgrims landing in America, which was “undertaken for the Glory of God and advancement of the Christian faith.”

Numerous other buildings and monuments throughout our nation’s capitol are also inscribed with declarations reminding us that God is the source of America’s birth, liberty and prosperity. Today, nine justices are deliberating in the U.S. Supreme Court building over the issue of same sex marriage in the presence of the Ten Commandments, God’s law given to Moses.

I pray that when these justices are ready to make their ruling, they heed the words of Thomas Jefferson inscribed on his memorial “Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that His justice cannot sleep forever.”

Visit our nation’s capitol and you will see the once cooperative relationship inscribed in stone between the church and state. Nowhere in the Capitol or the Constitution will you see the hostile myth of “separation of church and state.”

Groups like the ACLU may try to remove God from the public square, but the undeniable fact is America was born on the principles of Almighty God.
