If you know of a government worker who is off on CHRISTmas or Sundays, remind him or her it is because of the “Sundays excepted” clause-Article I, Section 7 of the U.S. Constitution. The “Sundays excepted” clause represents the “Christian Sabbath” and recognizes Christian holidays as part of the common law in the U.S. Constitution.
Many want to tout the U.S. Constitution as a Godless document. Quite the contrary, this clause is just one example of the many benefits Americans enjoy because of the Godly heritage of this country.
Our public school systems are another area where CHRISTmas is under attack because of Christianity. For generations, every school district in America has had one or two weeks off for the celebration CHRISTmas. However, there is a growing trend in many schools today that no longer find it acceptable to recognize “CHRIST” in CHRISTmas. Example: It is constitutional for public schools to display Jewish and Islamic religious holiday symbols but not Christian ones – (Skoros v. City of New York, 2006). Many schools have told students to replace the word “CHRISTmas” with “Holiday” (e.g., Happy Holidays, holiday parties, holiday trees, etc.) If children are not allowed to express CHRISTmas as a traditional holiday then school districts should not have the luxury of having a two week CHRISTmas break.Merry CHRISTmas!! – Tom & Carol Hughes
