Below is my letter to the Naples Daily News on Guns vs. the Sword of the Spirit (The Bible). America is engaged in the greatest spiritual battle since the American Revolution. Which weapon are you standing with against the evil in our country?
The evil in our nation is a heart problem not a gun problem. “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” Jeremiah 17:9
Letter: Guns and God

Guns and God
Americans for generations understood gun regulation would not bring safety to our country.
The only way for a free society to maintain safety is through the regulation of the heart.
Our civil laws can’t prevent hate, only Jesus can. The moral precepts of Jesus provide, as John Quincy Adams stated, “Rules for the government of the heart” that prevent crimes.
The Founders also understood this condition of the heart when adopting the Second Amendment. As James Wilson, a signer of the Declaration, taught in his day, our government documents did not create “rights” of specific protection for citizens, but merely secured the rights given to us by Divine Providence. Therefore, the Second Amendment was to secure a person’s right “to keep and bear arms” for his protection.
It is an inalienable right that Constitution signer, John Dickinson defined, “which God gave to you and which no inferior power has a right to take away.”
As gun regulation continues to be a hotly debated issue among citizens and our federal government, it appears citizens are willing to take up arms to exercise their God given rights before defending the God that give them their rights.
America may I suggest and encourage you before you invest in buying a gun that you would consider investing in the “sword of the spirit” the Bible, that will guarantee you victory in battle and eternal salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. To God be the Glory forever.Blessings, Tom Hughes
