Recently, I wrote a letter to the Naples Daily News reminding our newly elected officials that there are Divine consequences for their actions while in office.
Sadly, there will also be Divine consequences for those people of faith that have ignored the stewardship government that God has entrusted us with.
“Righteousness exalts a nation” (Proverbs 14:34 NKJV) not economics.

A higher standard
As newly elected officials prepare to take office, is there any accountability to keep them from governing in self-interest and vain ambition?
America has gone through many changes over the years, but we have remained a republic and our leaders will be held accountable before God for their political actions.
According to John Adams, this principle defined the difference between a politician and a statesman: A politician is willing to compromise principles for the sake of re-election, maintaining favor with constituents and party affiliation. A statesman will not compromise principles because of his understanding of the rights and wrongs revealed in the Bible that have established the moral and institutional standards for our republic and that there are divine consequences for his political actions.
Adams was considered a statesman. He stated: “The duration of future punishments terrifies me.”
The Founding Fathers were convinced that power has the tendency to corrupt so they required officials before taking office to make a declaration. For example: “I do believe in one God, the Creator and the Governor of the universe, the rewarder of the good and the punisher of the wicked, and I do acknowledge the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments” (Constitution of Pennsylvania). “When the righteous rule, the people rejoice; when the wicked rule the people groan” (Proverbs).
The Lord is calling upon our representatives today to answer the call: “Who will rise up for me against the wicked? Who will take a stand for me against evildoers?” (Psalms).
